My love of fine food is larger than Africa, where I was born and raised. I left South Africa for an adventure in Amsterdam in 1996 as a young girl, and after living here for 14 years and marrying a wonderful Dutch man, this is home to me now.

When I first arrived in Amsterdam, its food scene was as grey as the Dutch skies, but I am pleased to say that a lot has changed over the last decade and nowadays Amsterdam's a pretty exciting place to be - even for a foodie. It's also a great base for culinary travel to the rest of Europe.

I am lucky enough to have turned my love of food into a career as a food writer. I am currently the Editor of the Dutch Food site on About.com (About.com is part of the New York Times Company) and I am a former Food & Drink Editor of Time Out Amsterdam magazine. I now write monthly restaurant reviews for Time Out Amsterdam magazine, and contribute to the Time Out Amsterdam 100 Restaurants and Bars pocket guide and the Time Out Amsterdam Travel Guide Book. I also write for The Holland Times newspaper, Access (an expat magazine in the Netherlands), and the Holland Herald magazine. In addition, I work as a corporate journalist, copywriter and translator for companies in the food industry.

I plan to write about general food topics for Suite 101. I'll share some favourite tried and tested recipes and a few of my (very multi-culti) family recipes from South Africa, and I'll write about interesting things I've come across. Variety is, after all, the spice of life.
